Magazine pages before feedback

This is the front page which I created for my music magazine. I chose the colours green, white and black as they are all simple and clear to read. I chose to place the image in the centre of the magazine as it will be the first thing the viewers see and will attract them to buy the magazine as the model is making direct eye contact. I chose to place 'HIDDEN SECRETS FROM LEVI' to the left of the model as it is very important because this is the feature of my double page spread. As it is slightly over the model, it will catch the eye of the audience, forcing them to read the headline. I chose to place an image and text of a band on the right hand side because it is less important that the 'HIDDEN SECRETS' headline previously mentioned. As the image on the front cover is of 'Prim' I chose to place the text associating with it over the image and in the centre so the readers will instantly see it. Also, making it bigger than the other copy and a slightly different font, will make it stand out to the audience. I chose to place the 'FREE CON'S POSTER' in the right hand corner so the colour linked in with the banner used on the bottom. This will also stand out as it contrasts with the background colour as it is black against white.I chose to place a black banner along the bottom of the magazine to provide extra information about what is inside. I chose to use white and green writing to link in with the colour scheme, making it simple and easy to understand.

Here, it shows that I changed the colour of my text from white to a border or green to make it clearer and easier for the audience to read. Previously as they were only white, it made it difficult to read and therefore I changed the colour. This also links in with the house style colours of the magazine as they are white, black and green. Finally, I chose to use a plain white border on the small image and change the angle of rotation. This makes the image clearer and easier to view for the readers.

This is the contents page I made for my music magazine. Similarly to the front page, I used the colours green, white and black to keep the house style consistent. I chose to place the background green as it is a bright colour which readers will associate with the magazine. I placed the date in the top corner to reinforce that it is the first issue of the magazine. I chose to use regulars and features so that the audience know what to expect in the 'REGULARS' each week. I chose to place the page numbers to the right of the text as automatically, we read left to right and once readers have read the copy, they will read the page number and know exactly where to navigate to find it. I chose to place 4 images on the contents page rather than 7 which I planned due to my feedback criticizing how many images were on the contents page. Also, I chose to place 'GEN 2' in the corner to reinforce the name of the magazine and would continue on every page.

This is the contents page, after I changed the image in the bottom centre. The image about was temporary until the picture was taken. I chose this photograph to give an insight into what the double page spread included. This is more likely to attract the audience if there is a posed photograph on the contents page.

This is the double page spread I made for my music magazine. To keep the house style previously used on the front page and contents page, green and black are used prominently on this page. I chose to place the image on the left hand side and covers the right hand side slightly to create a sense of importance of the image. I chose to use a stand first to give the readers of the article more insight into who the artist is despite using his name clearly as the title at the top of the page. I chose to use black for the text as it makes it clear and easy to read. Also, keeping the house style colours of the magazine. I chose to use a pull quote to attract the attention of the readers and encourage them to read the article. I chose to use green for the pull quote as it stands out from the rest of the text, it is also in a slightly larger font so it is the main focus of the article. 'CLAN 32' is placed in the bottom right hand corner to reinforce the magazine that is being read. It is also an easy way to navigate around the magazine and find particular topics the readers would enjoy.

This shows a change I made to my double page spread. Through adding more text, and making the text size 11, I was able to include more content about the artist like conventional magazine. Also, including more pull quotes in the green house style colour which attracts the readers to read the article. Also, through changing the distance of the drop shadow on the title 'Levi' it makes it stand out more than before and looks more attractive.

Here, I chose to move the pull quote from the bottom to the top so there is an even spread on the page. This makes the page look neater and more structured than before.

  1. Colour palette good, house style is clearly established.
    Front cover:
White text disappears on white background.
Image slap in the middle tricky to place contents. Crop it in a little tighter but leave more space above head for masthead.
Heirarchy of contents needs to be clearer; all content headlines are the same size they need to be left aligned. Main headline could be higher with other contents to the left underneath. Perhaps an 'exclusive' or a + symbol. Not convinced about the insert image. Try drop shadow/border another image offset with it.
    Contents -
Good layout, clear and easy to navigate. Needs detail under the feature headings; a sentence about the feature to suggest depth.
obviously needs a different photo for the bottom right image.

    Looking good Danielle.
